What Qualcomm announced
Qualcomm introduced two flagship mobile platforms at Snapdragon Summit 2026. Both are designed around higher CPU and GPU performance plus more capable on-device AI processing.
The 2nm shift
The new platforms use a 2nm process and a new Oryon CPU design. Qualcomm's published figures should be treated as company claims until independent testing across retail devices is available.
Why on-device AI matters
Local processing can reduce latency and can keep some workloads on the phone rather than sending every request to a cloud service. It can also enable AI features when connectivity is limited.
The Extreme model
Qualcomm says the higher-end Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 can run a 30-billion-parameter mixture-of-experts model locally. The practical result will depend on software optimization and the applications that support it.

The chip itself does not guarantee better AI on every phone. Watch for actual devices, sustained performance, battery impact, thermal behavior and which AI features manufacturers expose.
